Ive been asked by Lila, to write a little something about me, as an Inspirational Lash Artist. First of all, I just want to say that I am totally honoured that I have been asked, and really cannot believe that anyone would be interested in my story!..... but here goes.
Im a former Crime Scene Investigator, having worked for the Police for 13 years. 7 of those years being a CSI. My life took a new direction, when I met my Australian, soon to be, husband. I had to give up my job, and start a new life in a new country. I was petrified! Of the new job, I mean! Everything else was everything I’d dreamt of and more! I didn’t hesitate about handing in my notice, but I did wonder ‘What the heck am I going to do now?!’ Australian Police don’t have civilian CSI’s, they are all sworn police officers. I didn’t want to join up, not at my age anyway (then 46). So, I had to think of something else to do. And quick. I began my love affair with Lash Extensions. When I was was still in the UK. I would often find myself called out at night, or working early mornings and/or the late shift. Time was precious and there’s no time for make-up. I researched them as best I could and scoured the net for the best lash artist. I knew what Mink lashes were then, but that’s about it – they were still relatively new and back then and there was limited information available.
Once I’d had my first full set, I was hooked! I told my stylist ‘Oh, your job seems so relaxing compared to mine’ - She replied, ‘Well why don’t you do it?’ Shrugging the idea off, I replied ‘Nah, I only know this, I can’t imagine myself doing anything different’.. I went back as regular as clock work and got them topped up. This continued for 2 years, until I came to Australia. When I first arrived, the first thing I did was look up ‘lash extensions, adelaide’. I then realised, that without work, I couldn’t afford them and I didn’t want to ask my husband for the money all the time. ‘As soon as I get a job, I’ll get some more’ I thought.
Looking for a job, I researched Lash Extension Courses, and from that day on, I was hooked. Same thing with eyebrows. They are my addiction. After much scouring the internet all over the world for award worthy brow courses, I found Elle Wilson and Brow Artists International who specialise is Natural Brow Restoration and design. I studied and practiced hard, and thought up my new business name ‘London Chic Lash and Brow Lounge’ I built the website and social media pages myself and so, began my new journey. For the first year, I was so worried that I had made the right move. What if I don’t get any clients? When will I start earning? Should I give it up? Arrghh.. look for something else? No! I couldn’t! I wanted to do this! I persevered and just kept practicing and trying to get my name out there and get the girls in. It was slow, but every girl left happy and told their friends. And soon, their friends started coming too.
When volume came in, shortly after my initial training, I wanted to learn that too – but one step at a time. Master the classic, then give volume a try. It’s tough but it is getting easier. Some days I do better than others. But, I don’t want to just be able to do it, I want to conquer it like the Master lash techs have! I’m doing pretty ok so far except I’m still far from the finishing line, I’ve just got to keep practicing, perfecting it, and working on my speed.
My business is doing really nicely now, and I have the most amazing clients! Another bonus is that I have got to know lots of amazing lash and brow techs who are just as passionate about them as I am and that keeps me continually inspired. I couldn’t be happier with my life and my choices!
