Welcome! My name is Rachel and I am the creator of LILA.

I have been in the Beauty industry for just over a decade now but didn't start my working life here.

I have always been a creative person and before I began my career in Beauty I was a freelance artist. Although a perfect job for me in many ways, it was not the most reliable in terms of a steady income so at the age of 21 I went back to school to study Beauty. This was when I was first introduced to the world of Lash Extensions. At that time it was a very new treatment but I was lucky enough to be able to work in a salon where they were offered.

I trained in various beauty treatments but lash extensions and nail art were always my favourite. They appealed to the perfectionist and artist in me and gave me a creative outlet.

I worked in various salons, some small, some large and I was able to learn from other lash techs about application techniques and find newer ways to create beautiful lash sets. Eventually in 2011 I started my own business and began to specialise more in eyelash extensions. Unfortunately it was around this time that I became allergic to acrylic and gel nail treatments which had a knock on effect with lashes.

The reaction I experienced caused me to become temporarily allergic to lash adhesive and I had to have a break for several months to let the reaction subside.

It was during this time that I decided to focus more on nailart. I ventured onto social media and created a Facebook and Instagram account showing nailart tutorials. I was surprised at the popularity of it and found thousands of people eager to learn and to be inspired.

Unfortunately, although the vast majority of followers were lovely, friendly people I also gained some attention that I was not too impressed with so I gave up my minor Instagram fame to continue with my lashing.

And that is where the initial thoughts for LILA began. I focused on perfecting my lash skills and I found people beginning to ask for my advice and for training. Much like with the nails I thought I could offer online tutorials and the Lessons In Lashes site was born.

The popularity of the site has amazed me and I am so happy that the Private group has become such a friendly and supportive place. In an industry that can be known for it's backstabbing and cattiness it's so lovely and refreshing to be part of a group of women (and men!) that are focused on lifting each other up.

So if you are already a member and reading this...I thank you for making it the place it has become and if you are not then why don't you come see!

May the Lash Gods be forever in your favour

(oh and I'm a geek too!)
